Ron Tyler, director of the Texas State Historical Association since 1986, has announced his retirement as director of the
TSHA and the Center for Studies in Texas History at the University of Texas at Austin, effective December 31, 2004. TSHA president
John Crain is working with Dean Richard Lariviere of the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Texas at Austin to appoint
a search committee to recommend a candidate to fill the vacancy. Tyler says that he looks forward to returning to full-time
teaching and research in the Department of History.
