BANKS, REASON GREENPrivate

The odd story of Reason G. Banks as reflected by the official records is indicated by the certificate of Richard Bache, Chief Clerk of War Department, given at Velasco June 4, 1836:

"I certify that it appears from the muster roll of Captain Winn's 3d Company, Georgia Volunteers ... that he served from 31 Dec., 1835 to 8 January, 1836, when it appears he deserted. But the Sec'y of War having reinstated him, as he was so returned through misapprehension, I certify that he is entitled to pay in that company from 31 Dec., 1835 to 29 Feb., 1836 being two months."
The LOMR notation opposite his name, on roll of Captain Winn's Company is "Left with public rifle from Velasco, Jan. 8." -- that being a day of wholesale desertions from the Georgia companies at Velasco. His name appears on Fisher's roll for San Jacinto.
