John T. Garner was apparently the first member of Winn's Company to tire of the restrictions of military life. Opposite his name on the Land Office copy of Captain Winn's muster roll is the notation, "Left, Jany. 5th."

Lieutenant Gates was a nephew and foster son of Captain Ira J. Westover, and was appointed First Lieutenant of artillery, Texas Regular Army, Dec. 7, 1835.
