John James was a Refugio colonist, and during the autumn of 1835 was employed in Thomas G. Western's store, at Goliad. He enlisted in Westover's Company, early in January, 1836, and was killed at Goliad, on March 27th.

Jennings appears to have been one of Burke's men, originally enlisted at Mobile, who continued in the company from its organization until the massacre of March 27, 1836. He signed the Convention Memorial at Refugio about Feb. 5, 1836, and his name appears on LOMR for Burke's Company and on original and all subsequent versions of T&TR roll, as a victim of the general massacre at Goliad, March 27, 1836.
