Cornelius Rooney's pay was drawn by J. De Cordova May 27, 1850, on certificate of Ben F. Hill, Adjutant General, that his name appeared on the muster roll of Captain Ticknor's Company as enrolled Jan. 19, 1836, and massacred March 27, 1836. [Public Debt Papers, State Library.]
It had already been once collected by James Rooney, administrator. [CMSR No. 9111, State Library.]

The case of Gideon Rose indicates the difficulty experienced by the heirs of these soldiers who did not receive commissions, but were not carried on company muster rolls.
When Fannin reorganized his command about Feb. 15, 1836, Chadwick, who had been sergeant major was appointed adjutant general, and Gideon Rose, sergeant major. This was known, after the massacre, to every man in the regiment who had escaped. But Rose was paid, from Dec. 23, 1835 to March 27, 1836, as first sergeant in Captain Winn's Company, notwithstanding the fact that Dr. Anson Jones, as attorney for his administrator, collected his pay. [CMSR No. 9450, State Library.] All the sources indicate that he was a victim of the general massacre at Goliad, March 27, 1836.
