ABOUT
Teaching Tools presents a collection of instructional resources designed to assist teachers
of Texas history. Most items in the collection are intended primarily for classroom
teachers at the 4th and 7th grade levels, where Texas history receives special emphasis in
the curriculum, but many can be easily adapted for use in other situations with different
age groups. Each teaching tool has been prepared by a practicing classroom teacher or by
an educator with previous classroom experience. Authors are credited individually
within the structure of each tool. The tools are organized into several categories as
follows:
-
TEKS Alignment Tools provide assistance in aligning specific resources such as
the Handbook of Texas Online with the social studies elements of the Texas
Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for specified grade levels.
-
Lesson Plans provide detailed outlines for covering specific topics in the
classroom. Each plan includes information about the lesson objectives,
curriculum objectives addressed, materials needed, teacher and student activities,
and a rubric for assessing student performance. Some utilize a specific resource,
such as the Handbook of Texas Online, while others are general purpose plans.
-
Student Guides provide assistance in using specific resources through subject
outlines organized with headings drawn from commonly used themes for the
specified grade level.
We plan to augment our initial collection of tools with additional lesson plans, alignment
tools, and other resources on a regular basis. Let us know what you think of the current
tools and what types of additional resources would be helpful to you. Use the Feedback
button located on each page to communicate with us by email or write to us at:
