Monte Monroe (Chair)
Ricardo Romo earned his Ph.D. in history from UCLA (1975). A nationally respected urban historian, Romo is the author of East Los Angeles: History of a Barrio, now in its ninth printing (one in Spanish). Romo served as the fifth president of the University of Texas at San Antonio from 1999 to 2017. He has taught and published in the field of civil rights, Mexican American history, and urban history. Ricardo and his wife Harriett have been recognized for their philanthropy in the arts. Over the past 20 years, they have donated nearly 2,000 Latino art prints and paintings to a dozen museums.
Justice Ken Wise sits on the 14th Court of Appeals in Houston. He previously served as Judge of both the 334th and 152nd District Courts in Harris County. He is a member of the Texas Judicial Council and a director of the Judicial Section of the State Bar of Texas. He is an adjunct professor at Houston Baptist University and a former adjunct professor at the University of Houston Law Center. He is the creator and host of the award-winning Texas history podcast Wise About Texas. Justice Wise has published numerous journal articles and is a regular speaker on Texas history across the State of Texas. In 2021 Justice Wise was honored by the Texas House of Representatives for his contributions in preserving Texas history.
