Sean P. Cunningham is Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of History at Texas Tech University. He received his Ph.D. in Modern American History from the University of Florida in 2007. His first book, Cowboy Conservatism: Texas and the Rise of the Modern Right, was published in 2010, and his second book, American Politics in the Postwar Sunbelt: Conservative Growth in a Battleground Region, was published by Cambridge University Press in 2014. His current research explores the Texas Democratic Party’s relationship with FDR during the 1930s and early 1940s, with particular interest in the New Deal’s impact on state and local campaign strategies. Cunningham teaches courses in Texas history, modern American political history, and the history of modern conservatism. In 2013, Texas Tech honored him with the President’s Excellence in Teaching Award. He is also a member of the Board of Directors for Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
