Arroyo León, an intermittent stream, rises at U.S. Highway 83 four miles southeast of Zapata in southwest Zapata County (at 26°51' N, 99°13' W) and runs south for two miles to its mouth on the International Falcon Reservoir, six miles southeast of Zapata (at 26°50' N, 99°13' W). The surrounding low-rolling to flat terrain is surfaced by sandy and clay loams that support scrub brush, grasses, and cacti.
