Art Leatherwood Biography

William G. Austin, Medal of Honor recipient, was born at Galveston and entered military service at New York, New York. He was a sergeant in Company E, Seventh United States Cavalry, at Wounded Knee Creek, South Dakota, on December 29, 1890. He was commended for assisting "men on the skirmish line, directing their fire, etc., and using every effort to dislodge the enemy," Indians fighting from a ravine.
