Henry Damerel Aves, Episcopal bishop, son of Frederick William and Frances Elizabeth (Damerel) Aves, was born on July 10, 1853, in Huron County, Ohio. He received a bachelor of philosophy degree from Kenyon College in 1878 and studied law at Cincinnati Law School from 1879 to 1880. In preparation for the ministry, he completed his B.D. degree at Bexley Hall in 1883 and his D.D. degree at Kenyon College in 1905. He married Mary Gertrude Smith on September 11, 1883; they had five children. Aves became a deacon in 1883 and a priest in 1884. He was rector of St. John's Church, Cleveland, Ohio, from 1884 to 1892 and of Christ Church, Houston, Texas, from 1892 to 1904. He was consecrated bishop of Mexico on December 14, 1904. Upon his retirement from the bishopric in 1923, he made his home in Seabrook, Texas, where he died on September 20, 1936.
