The Bachelor Prong of Hords Creek rises four miles south of Novice and six miles west of U.S. Highway 84 in northwestern Coleman County (at 31°56' N, 99°36' W) and runs eleven miles southeast to its mouth on Hords Creek, two miles west of Coleman (at 31°51' N, 99°28' W). It crosses an area of steep slopes and benches surfaced by shallow clay loams that support juniper, live oak, mesquite, and grasses; the lower reaches of the creek traverse a flat, flood-prone area with local shallow depressions, surfaced by clay and sandy loams that support water-tolerant hardwoods, conifers, and grasses.
