Charles Baird, early settler and public official, was a member of Stephen F. Austin's second colony. His wife, née Francis Elizabeth Daniel, came from Autauga County, Alabama, and Baird may have as well. He was in Texas by October 17, 1832, when he received title to a league of land on the east bank of the San Bernard River in what is now western Fort Bend County. At that time he had two White servants and ten slaves. He represented the Fort Bend area at the Convention of 1833.
