Balcon Creek rises two miles northwest of the High Lonesome Ranch headquarters in southern Terrell County (at 29°57' N, 102°02' W) and runs southeast for five miles to its mouth on Indian Creek, three miles east of Shafter Crossing Road (at 29°53' N, 102°02' W). It sharply dissects massive limestone and crosses variable terrain that overlies hard limestone. The surface soil, generally dark, calcareous, stony clays and clay loams, supports oaks, junipers, grasses, and mesquites. Balcon Creek is a small stream in an area of many large canyons, creeks, and arroyos.
