Thomas Henry Ball, Methodist minister and college administrator, was born on October 29, 1819, in Northumberland County, Virginia, the son of Hannah (Gaskins) and David Thomas Ball. He married Susan Perrie, and they had one son and two daughters. His wife died in 1853, and in the fall of 1855 he took his mother and three children to Huntsville, Texas, where he became president of Andrew Female College, a Methodist school. In 1857 Ball married a widow, Mrs. M. O. (Spivey) Cleveland; they had one son, Thomas Henry Ball. The senior Ball died of typhoid fever on November 30, 1858, and was buried in Huntsville.
