Barbone Creek begins nine miles northwest of Sandia in northern Jim Wells County (at 28º03' N, 98º02' W) and runs east for nine miles to its mouth on Lake Corpus Christi, six miles northwest of Sandia (28º03' N, 97º55' W). It traverses flat terrain with local shallow depressions, surfaced by clayey and sandy loams that support water-tolerant hardwoods, conifers, mesquite, grasses, and some cacti.
