Bare Butte is located in the KMA oilfield, three miles southeast of Iowa Park and just south of the Wichita River in southeastern Wichita County (at 33°53' N, 98°38' W). The mesa was probably named by a county settler who arrived in the area in the 1850s. The name has no relation to the topography of the summit, for the hill is covered with a thick growth of grass. The elevation of Bare Butte is 1,070 feet.
