Barnes Mountain overlooks the Colorado River eighteen miles northwest of Burnet in northwestern Burnet County (at 30°57' N, 98°25' W). It rises 1,347 feet above sea level, nearly 250 feet higher than the surrounding countryside. It was probably named after a local family.
