Barrilla Draw begins between Major Peak and the Barrilla Mountains in east central Jeff Davis County (31°00' N, 103°27' W) and runs north for fifty miles across the southwestern edge of Pecos County to its mouth on the eastern edge of Toyah Lake in east central Reeves County (at 31°07' N, 103°25' W). The surrounding steep to gentle slopes and broken flat terrain of alluvial pebbles, gravel, sand, and mud are surfaced by light reddish-brown to brown sand, clay loam, and rough stony soils that support scrub brush, sparse grasses, creosote bush, and cacti. Barrilla Draw was named for the salt cedars, or barillas, that grow in the Trans-Pecos.
