Basford (Basford's) Bayou rises one mile southwest of Hitchcock in southwest Galveston County (at 29°20' N, 95º02' W) and flows seven miles southeast to its mouth on Jones Bay, across from North Deer Island in West Bay (at 29º18' N, 94º57' W). The bayou is channeled in its upper reaches. It traverses flat to rolling terrain, surfaced by clay and sandy loam that supports water-tolerant hardwoods, conifers, and grasses; at the mouth, brackish saltwater marsh covers mud and sand that supports rushes and grasses.
