Baumann Branch rises at the base of Lone Oak Mountain, four miles east of the community of Field Creek in extreme northwestern Llano County (30°54' N, 98°53' W), and runs south for six miles to its mouth on San Fernando Creek, four miles southwest of the Valley Spring settlement (at 30°50' N, 98°53' W). It traverses an area of the Llano basin characterized by flat to rolling terrain surfaced with fine, sandy loams. The vegetation consists primarily of open stands of live oak and mesquite.
