Bear Creek begins five miles west of Hamilton in western Hamilton County (at 31°40' N, 98°12' W) and extends northeast for eight miles to its mouth on the Leon River (at 31°47' N, 98°09' W). It flows beneath steep slopes and benches surfaced by shallow clay loams that support juniper, live oak, mesquite, and grasses.
