Belknap Creek rises at the confluence of Middle Belknap Creek and West Belknap Creek, three miles north of Stoneburg in east central Montague County (at 33°44' N, 97°56' W), and runs northeast for 18½ miles to its mouth on the Red River, three miles north of Belcherville (at 33°52' N, 97°50' W). The stream, intermittent in its upper and middle reaches, traverses generally flat terrain surfaced by clay and sandy loams that support water-tolerant hardwoods, conifers, and grasses. The area has served as crop and range land. Belknap Creek is joined by East Belknap Creek four miles southeast of Ringgold and by Rattlesnake Creek 5½ miles south of Ringgold.
