Big Creek rises six miles south of Jasper in central Jasper County (at 30°51' N, 93°59' W) and flows southwest for fifteen miles to its mouth on the Neches River, four miles south of Town Bluff Dam (at 30°46' N, 94°08' W). The stream, intermittent in its upper reaches, runs through gently undulating terrain surfaced by deep loam that supports pines and grasses. A nineteenth-century observer described Big Creek as "a beautiful stream of clear-running water."
