Big Creek Scenic Area is on Forest Service Road 217 six miles west of Shepherd in east central San Jacinto County. The scenic area, which is maintained by the Texas Forestry Association, features a 3½-mile hiking trail in four loops that partially follows Big Creek. Camping, picnicking, swimming, and showers are available at nearby Double Lake Recreation Area.
