Big Cypress Creek, also known as Cypress Creek, rises five miles south of Chester in northwestern Tyler County (at 30°51' N, 94°35' W) and flows southeast for twenty-seven miles to its mouth on Turkey Creek, a mile southeast of Hillister (at 30°38' N, 94°21' W). The stream is intermittent for much of its course. Its major tributary is Little Cypress Creek, which rises five miles southwest of Colmesneil in west central Tyler County (at 30°51' N, 94°29' W). The smaller stream, also intermittent in its upper stages, flows south for eleven miles to its juncture with Big Cypress Creek, seven miles northwest of Warren (at 30°42' N, 94°29' W). The surrounding terrain is flat to rolling with local escarpments. The soil surface is mostly deep sandy loam. Hardwood forests and conifers predominate in the heavily wooded area.
