Big Fossil Creek, also known as Fossil Creek, rises 4½ miles northwest of Saginaw in southwestern Tarrant County (at 32°57' N, 97°24' W) and runs southeast for nineteen miles to its mouth on the West Fork of the Trinity River, just east of Haltom City (at 32°47' N, 97°14' W). The stream is intermittent in its upper reaches and is dammed five miles south of Haslet. It traverses flat to rolling terrain surfaced by clay and sandy loams that support water-tolerant hardwoods, conifers, grasses, chaparral, and cacti. The area is heavily urbanized.
