Big Sandy Creek, sometimes called Sandy Creek, begins two miles northeast of the Round Mountain community in northwestern Travis County (at 30°36' N, 97°55' W) and runs south for twelve miles to its mouth on Lake Travis, just east of Jonestown (at 30°30' N, 97°55' W). It crosses an area of steep slopes and benches surfaced by shallow clay loams that support juniper, live oak, mesquite, and grasses.
