Bitter Creek, also known as Browns Creek, rises within the Megargel oilfield four miles east of Megargel in southwest Archer County (at 33°27' N, 98°53' W) and runs south through southwest Archer and southwest Young counties to its mouth on the Brazos River, just east of the Throckmorton-Young county line (at 33°21' N, 98°55' W). It traverses an area of rolling hills surfaced by clay and sandy loam that supports scrub brush, mesquite, cacti, and grasses. The church community of Bitter Creek and the Padgett Cemetery are near the stream in northwest Young County.
