Black Peak is fifteen miles southwest of Marathon in the Del Norte Mountains in west central Brewster County (at 30°06' N, 103°28' W). The summit, at an elevation of 4,964 feet above sea level, rises 965 feet above Maravillas Creek, a mile south. The soils on Black Peak are shallow and stony and support scrub brush, creosote bush, cacti, grasses, oak, and mesquite.
