Bonito Creek rises seventeen miles south of Carrizo Springs in south central Dimmit County (at 28°16' N, 99°55 ' W) and runs east for sixteen miles to its mouth on Velenzuela Creek, eight miles southwest of Catarina (at 28°15' N, 99°41' W). Upstream, it flows through rolling hills surfaced by sandy and clay loam that supports scrub brush, mesquite, grasses, and cacti; downstream, hardwoods and grasses grow on flat land with local shallow depressions.
