Bowie Mountain, 5½ miles southwest of Oxford in southern Llano County (at 30°32' N, 98°44' W), has an elevation of 1,483 feet above sea level and rises 200 feet above Ranch Road 965 to the southeast. The surrounding terrain is flat to rolling to steep and is surfaced with soils ranging from deep sandy and clay loams to shallow and stony cover. Open stands of live oak, mesquite, and juniper grow in the area.
