Brown Creek rises in the Cusseta Mountains six miles east of Marietta in northwestern Cass County (at 33°11' N, 94°29' W) and runs northeast for 6½ miles to its mouth on Powell Creek, just west of the mouth of Powell Creek on Wright Patman Lake (at 33°13' N, 94°24' W). The stream is intermittent in its upper reaches. It traverses hilly land with loamy soils upstream, then enters gently undulating to gently rolling terrain. The land is heavily wooded, with pines and various hardwoods predominating.
