Browns Creek rises in south central Freestone County (at 31°36' N, 96°08' W) and runs southeast for 9½ miles to its mouth on Buffalo Creek, three miles northeast of Buffalo in Leon County (at 31°30' N, 96°02' W). Browns Creek is intermittent in its upper reaches. It traverses flat to rolling terrain with local escarpments and shallow depressions, surfaced by sandy and clay loams that support hardwoods, conifers, and grasses. The developed land in the area is used primarily for dry-land farming.
