Brushy Creek rises just east of Valley Lake in northwestern Fannin County (at 33°27' N, 96°21' W) and flows north for 4½ miles before emptying into the Red River 1½ miles northeast of Valley Lake (at 33°28' N, 96°16' W). It traverses flat land surfaced by clay and sandy loams that support water-tolerant hardwoods, conifers, and grasses. For most of the county's history the Brushy Creek area has been used as crop and range land.
