Brushy Creek rises seven miles southwest of San Augustine in western San Augustine County (at 31°30' N, 94°13' W) and runs southwest for seven miles to its mouth on Speer Creek, near Goodwin (at 31°25' N, 94°16' W). The stream is intermittent in its upper reaches. Its banks are heavily wooded for most of its length with pine and hardwood trees, and the nearly level to moderately steep terrain is surfaced by loam and clay. The land is used predominantly for agriculture and as forest.
