Brutons Creek, locally also called Ellison's Creek, rises 3½ miles north of Daingerfield in central Morris County (at 33°05' N, 94°42' W) and flows south for eight miles to its mouth on Ellison Creek Reservoir, 2½ miles northwest of Lone Star (at 32°55' N, 94°44' W). The stream is intermittent in its upper reaches. The alluvial soils along the banks once made the area prized agricultural land, when settlement came in the late 1830s. The creek was named for David Bruton, an early land grantee. Today the area is one of the most densely populated areas in the county.
