Buck Creek rises six miles southeast of Elmdale oilfield in northwestern Callahan County (at 32°23' N, 99°34' W) and runs northwest for twelve miles to its mouth on Cedar Creek in northeastern Taylor County (at 32°31' N, 99°42' W). The surrounding flat to gently sloping terrain is surfaced upstream by shallow, stony soil and downstream by shallow to moderately deep silt loams. The area's flora comprises live oak, juniper, grasses, and mesquite.
