Buffalo Creek rises two miles south of Donie in the southwestern corner of Freestone County (at 31°27' N, 96°13' W) and runs southeast for thirty-six miles to its mouth on Upper Keechi Creek, four miles south of Lake Leon in Leon County (at 31°26' N, 95°49' W). It crosses flat lands with local shallow depressions, surfaced by sandy and clay loams that support hardwoods, conifers, and grasses. The area is used primarily for dryland farming.
