Bullhead Creek rises a mile east of the town of Prairie Mountain and a mile west of Bullhead Mountain in extreme southwestern Llano County (at 30°33' N, 98°52' W) and runs north for thirteen miles through a wide, sandy bed to its mouth on Hickory Creek, nine miles west of Llano (at 30°42' N, 98°50' W). It traverses an area of the Llano basin characterized by flat to rolling to steep terrain, with local dissection and escarpments. Soils in the area range from shallow and rocky to deep sandy and clay loams and support open stands of live oak and mesquite.
