Burro Mountain, or Cerro de las Burras ("Hill of the Jennies"), is six miles northwest of Redford in southeastern Presidio County (at 29°25' N, 104°07' W). Its summit, with an elevation of 4,345 feet above sea level, rises 1,855 feet above the nearby Rio Grande floodplain. The mountain stands in an area of the Bofecillos Mountains characterized by Tertiary formations of conglomerate, sandstone, tuff, and basalt. The generally light reddish-brown to brown sands and clay loams in the area support sparse grasses, cacti, and desert shrubs of conifers and oaks.
