Cadena Creek rises two miles south of Goliad in central Goliad County (at 28°37' N, 97°24' W) and flows east for six miles to its mouth on the San Antonio River, a mile north of Farm Road 239 (at 28°37' N, 97°19' W). It traverses flat to rolling terrain surfaced by clay and sandy loam that supports water-tolerant hardwoods and grasses. The name is Spanish for "chain."
