Caney Creek rises twelve miles northeast of Lake Tawakoni in east central Hunt County (at 33°09' N, 95°57' W) and runs southwest for 5½ miles to its mouth on the Cowleech Fork of the Sabine River, four miles north of Lake Tawakoni (at 33°03' N, 95°59' W). It runs through flat to rolling terrain surfaced by clay and sandy loams that support grasses and water-tolerant hardwoods. The area has been used as crop and range land.
