Caney Creek rises three miles northeast of Boxelder in southeastern Red River County (at 33°30' N, 94°50' W) and runs southeast for 3½ miles to its mouth on Dillard Creek, three miles northwest of Lydia (at 33°27' N, 94°48' W). The local soils are mostly clay and sandy loams, best suited for pastureland or grain crops. Surrounding pastures and fields are interspersed with wooded areas where pine trees predominate.
