Caney Creek rises three miles northeast of Westville in west central Trinity County (at 31°07' N, 95°11' W). It formerly ran southwest for fourteen miles to its mouth on the Trinity River, near Sebastopol (at 30°55' N, 95°16' W). Since the construction of Livingston Reservoir (later known as Lake Livingston) in the 1960s, the lower portion of the creek has been inundated. The stream runs through flat to rolling terrain surfaced by clay and sandy loams that support conifers, water-tolerant hardwoods, and grasses.
