Caney Creek rises two miles northeast of Zion Hill in north central Upshur County (at 32°52' N, 94°53' W) and runs southwest for seven miles to its mouth on Little Cypress Creek, two miles west of Friendship (at 32°46' N, 94°55' W). The creek traverses flat to rolling terrain surfaced by sandy and clay loam soils that support water-tolerant hardwoods, conifers, and grasses.
