Canoe Bayou rises eight miles southeast of Bay City in the Bay Prairie of east central Matagorda County (at 28°54' N, 95°51' W) and runs southeast for 14½ miles, passing through a small lake before reaching its mouth on Live Oak Bayou, two miles east of Lake Austin (at 28°47' N, 95°44' W). The creek is intermittent in its upper reaches. It traverses low and rolling to flat terrain surfaced by sandy and clay loams that support grasses and hardwoods.
