Cantau Creek rises eight miles southeast of Seguin in southeastern Guadalupe County (at 29°28' N, 97°54' W) and runs north for six miles to its mouth on the Guadalupe River, five miles southeast of Seguin (at 29°32' N, 97°53' W). The creek traverses an area of rolling prairies surfaced by clay loams that support mesquite and grasses. It was probably named for Jesús Cantú, who was granted land in the area by the Mexican government in 1831.
