Capote Draw

Capote Draw, a shallow valley, rises 2½ miles west of the Cuesta del Burro range in western Presidio County (at 30°05' N, 104°27' W) and runs north for twenty-four miles to its mouth on Wild Horse Creek, at the section known as Chispa Creek, ten miles south of the Jeff Davis county line (at 30°18' N, 104°29' W). The draw crosses an alluvium of Quaternary sands and gravel washed from the Sierra Vieja range. The land surface of sands and rough stony areas supports desert shrubs. In August 1583 Antonio de Espejo's entrada camped in Capote Draw.
