Carrizo Creek (Carrizo Arroyo) rises in Union County, New Mexico (at 36°25' N, 103°35' W) and enters Texas at the western boundary of Dallam County (at 36°14' N, 103°02' W); it crosses southern Dallam County for thirty miles and empties into Rita Blanca Creek just west of Dalhart in southeastern Dallam County (at 36°04' N, 102°35' W). The creek runs through flat to rolling hills surfaced by clay and sandy loams that support hardwoods, brush, and grasses. Much of the creek was part of the Buffalo Springs division of the XIT Ranch.
